Scottish Advertising Industry raises £7,500 for NABS

February 1st 2008
Edinburgh

On Friday 1st February, NABS held its first ever Burns Supper to raise funds for the industry charity. The evening was organised by Keith Crane with the help of the NABS Scotland Committee.

Held at the Roxburghe Hotel with Scottish Sun as the main sponsor and GMG Radio sponsoring the drinks reception, over 100 people turned out to help support NABS and enjoy themselves along the way.

Traditional Burns Night fayre stopped the whisky from affecting judgement as people bid for the auction prizes, culminating in a dinner for four people ontop of the BT Tower.  Donated by David Crawley from BT, it was not long before the inimitable John Morgan had blown everyone else out of the water and snaffled the prize for the princely sum of £1,000.

Mr Morgan’s involvement didn’t stop there as he had been charged with performing the Burns readings – all of which went down extremely well.  There was traditional musical interpretation of several of Robbie’s works and an extremely glamorous Piper.

NABS’ Fundraising, Development and MarketingManager, Barbara Seymour, said a few very rousing words which evidently had the desired effect as people’s wallets opened generously throughout the evening.

The Toast to the Lassies by Alan MacKenzie from National Australia Bank turned the air blue and brought the house down and the reply was given by Kate Harris, Head of Regional Development for NABS.  A very nervous English girl standing up infront of a virtually totally Scottish audience on the most Scottish of evenings … she even had to endure the heckling and kilt-flashing of Guy Robertson … as she said though, “she’d do anything for NABS”.

So, it seems would a growing number of people in our industry who clearly see that NABS is something that needs and deserves as much support as possible.

Our thanks go to everybody who supported the event and we hope to see you again next year.
