The President's Breakfast
June 12th 2008
Held at the IPA, 44 Belgrave Square, London, SW1X 8QS
The annual President's Breakfast was held on Thursday 12th June at the IPA in Central London. NABS supporters came together for an informal breakfast meeting at which CEO Designate Carole Butler, Chairman Matt Shepherd-Smith and retiring President Bruce Haines gave speeches thanking supporters for their generosity over the past year and re-iterating the need to continue to commit to the industry charity.
Awards were also given to those supporters who had made a particular impact in 2007.
The Rep of the Year Award was given to Marie Williams from Kinetic.
Marie is the embodiment of everything a good NABS rep should be - within an hour of her induction meeting with the team, she phoned in with sponsorship secured for last year's NABSTOCK and will no doubt be a key player on this year's NABSTOCK committee, set up to help organise the event. She is proactive, committed and a fantastic ambassador for NABS.
The Supporter of the Year Award went to McCann Erickson and was collected by CEO Chris Macdonald.
McCann Erickson has been a terrific supporter - particularly with the flagship fundraising event, the Big Bash. They have produced some fantastic creative work and Chris himself has sat on the Big Bash Committee for the past two years.
The agency has given considerable time and resource to helping NABS.
Finally, the Ron Miller Award was given to Jeremy Bullmore. Bruce Haines announced this award and also stated that he felt slightly embarrassed that Jeremy had not received it before now considering his amazing support of the charity, in particular setting up the Fast Forward training course in 1999.
Bruce Haines then handed over the Presidency of NABS to Stephen Woodford - Chairman and CEO of DDB London.
Having started his career as a Graduate Trainee at Nestle in 1980, Stephen moved to Lintas after two years, having decided that advertising is where his heart lay. In 1989 he joined WCRS as Account Director on Carling, then moving to Leo Burnett in 1992 as Deputy MD. Stephen rejoined WCRS some four years later, becoming MD and then CEO. In 2004 he was part of a management buyout team and led the development of an integrated group of communications agencies around the core ad agency.
From 2003 to 2005 Stephen was President of the IPA (again taking over the Presidency from Bruce Haines).
In January 2007 he joined DDB London as Chairman and CEO, fulfilling an ambition he has had throughout his career to work for the agency.
