How to use the new NABS Flatshare Service
The new NABS Flatshare service replaces the weekly e-mail with a new user-friendly database, onto which you can input your details, upload photos and even pinpoint the exact location of your home should you wish to!
Using it is simple.
Looking for a new home?
If you are looking for a flat or house to share, you can search for either a single or double room in a house or a flat. Choose the location you would like to live in, or leave this section blank to search the whole of London. You can also select a price range or again, leave it blank to see everything available.
Click on "Search" and your results will be displayed. You can choose how you view your results, either by "Date Posted", "Date Available" or by "Rent Amount".
If you would like to find out more about a particular property, you will need to register your details.
Room for rent?
You also have to be registered in order to upload an ad or amend details. The more information you add, the easier it will be to find your new flatmate. You can also add photos and free text to describe the room available.
How to Register
Again, this is simple. You will be asked to enter some basic details, including an e-mail address (which will become your user name) and a password. Once you have entered your details you will be sent a confirmation email to verify your registration.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How is the new site moderated?
A. The NABS Flatshare Manager will moderate the site in exactly the same way as with the old system of sending out a weekly e-mail. NABS is able to view new ads as they are uploaded and anything offensive or inappropriate will be deleted.
Q. Do the people using the Flatshare service all come from the communications industry?
A. The site is only promoted to people working in the communications industry. NABS does not ask for proof of a user’s employment status, but people using the site would only come to it through a link with the industry.
Q. I can’t log on, what do I do?
A. When you register to use the Flatshare service you will be sent an e-mail to verify your registration. If you haven’t received this, check it hasn’t gone into your junk folder. Click on the link in this e-mail in order to complete the process. If you forget your password, there is a button you can click on for a reminder.
Q. How do I correct a mistake in an ad?
A: All registered users are able to edit or delete posted ads.
Q. Can I upload photos?
A. Yes. Photos need to be in .gif or .png format. If your photos are in .jpg format these can easily be converted on most computers. If you upload in a format that is not supported, your image will not be displayed and you see a red cross on the screen instead of the photo.
Q. The map does not pinpoint the right location for my flat. How do I correct this?
A. All you need to do is drag the indicator to your flat's location and when you close it, this will be saved.
Q. What happens to the personal data I enter when registering?
A. This data is only seen by NABS. We may contact you with news about our events and services. If you do not want to receive this information, you can opt out when you register by ticking the appropriate box.
Q. Who do I speak to if I am concerned about content I have seen on the site?
A. If you see anything inappropriate or offensive, please contact the NABS Flatshare Manager, Iwona Gregson-Brown, on 020 7462 3150. She will be able to delete the posting and block the user.
